Unfortunately, most of my clients reach out to me when it's already too late. Or at the very least, when they experience an issue.
This is not unusual sadly, and is often because they have either been mis-sold, mis-informed or worse, misled.
On the bright side, this doesn't mean that there are no options left to them. And we can usually prevent any situation from getting worse at least.
I will do a thorough overview of your current connectivity set up. This will include (amongst other things) looking at your use-case, your geographical spread, your data consumption, and your current incumbent.
Once I have this information we can move onto the 2nd phase of the process which is all about understanding the future needs and where you and your business needs to be in 5-10 years.
Once I have a clear picture of what the current set up is, I am better placed to advise on what can be done, what can be un-done (if anything), and where you should be looking to go in the future.
Evaluating the status quo is the easy bit, and although it maybe uncomfortable for a short time, the good news is that we can now look to make a plan of action.
When it comes to cellular connectivity especially, making any kind of change will be a bit painful. Usually, the smaller your user base out there, the less painful it will be. So it's always best to take action quickly as it never gets any better the longer you leave it.
I'll take a look at what your business needs, what it doesn't need, and what it would like to have if at all possible. I will educate you on what all of your available options are, and together we can work through them and decide upon the ideal solution.
Once a plan of action has been agreed upon. I can either leave you to it, make any introductions if needed, or I can work alongside you and help facilitate or manage the relationship & engagements.
The decision on how much further involvement I have is entirely down to you. Once we have agreed on the direction, the suppliers or partners needed, and any other elements required, then you are free to engage directly.
However, you should only consider doing this if you are experienced within the connectivity market, what the current trends are, and what would be considered as a fair market value at the time.
Because there is very little margin for connectivity vendors these days, pricing and costs can vary drastically depending upon your use case and/or awareness of what is a "good deal". Most clients tend to keep me around for this final phase just to ensure they are getting good value.
I wont charge you a fee for any advice, any service or any time I spend working with you. My clients have enough considerations to make without trying to factor in additional costs for a 3rd party consultant. That's not how this works.
Being completely transparent, I choose to earn a small ongoing revenue share from any vendor that I suggest or recommend. I typically charge the same % for every vendor that I evaluate and agree to work with. This means that it makes no difference to me who you choose to work with, the only decision to be made is who is the best fit for your business?
I will only work with best of breed vendors or organisations that have something very unique to offer...But in the end, the final choice will always be down to you.
The best advice I give all of my IoT clients?... "change before you have to".
